Color of Magic

First time reading a Terry Prachett book but I've consumed media adjacent like watching Good Omens or etc. The writing very whimsical and fun. It gives so much flavor to the world building and the descriptions.

When following Rincewind and Twoflower, the world building and writing shine while the character development and plot (if any?) feel a little lacking. Hoping we get more character building.

I wish the fantasy genre would lean in to this kind of writing more. Especially for the light hearted fantasy books with less stake and focused more on being cozy. They should make the world more magical and insane rather than a ground in Tolkien style fantasy.
